Bottas: Problems with pit stops are a concern

Sauber drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou completed the race report in Jeddah. The team did not hide their disappointment with this result and admitted that pit stops had to be worked on so as not to lose time due to hitches.

Valtteri Bottas (17th): “It’s a difficult race. We didn’t have the pace we hoped for and thought we should have. It was especially difficult on the Hard tires; we couldn’t get them to work. This is the biggest problem. Closer to the finish I switched to soft tires – the situation got better, but it was already too late.

The following problems at the pit stop also cause concern. Of course, we can only change so much in one week. “We now have at least two weeks before the next race and the team will try to resolve the critical issues.”

Guanyu Zhou (18th): “It was a difficult start to the race – I had to keep an eye on the engine temperature, but after that everything went well. I had a very high pace on the Medium tires, but after the pit stop I lost all chances.

Of course I’m disappointed that this is the second time the team has encountered problems at a pit stop. It is clear that we need to improve in this area. My race actually ended after a bad pit stop.

Bugs ruined my race this weekend, but the good news is that we have a faster race pace compared to previous seasons. But the time we lose during pit stops is difficult to make up.”
