Saudi Arabia Grand Prix: interesting statistics

Several interesting statistical selections based on the results of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix…

Qualification

After winning qualifying in Jeddah, Max Verstappen won his second pole of the season and the 34th of his career, ahead of Alain Prost and Jim Clark – moving to a clear fifth place in the number of pole positions in Formula history 1.

Jeddah is the twentieth circuit where Verstappen has achieved pole position. According to this indicator, he surpassed Michael Schumacher, but is inferior to Lewis Hamilton, who won qualifying at 32 different tracks.

Charles Leclerc qualified second, starting from the front row for the 34th time in his career, equaling Rubens Barrichello and Rene Arnoux.

For the fifth race in a row, Verstappen and Leclerc shared the front row.

Sergio Perez started in the top three for only the second time in the last 19 Grands Prix.

Oscar Piastri defeated Lando Norris for the second year in a row in Jeddah. His fifth place is McLaren’s best result in Jeddah.

George Russell qualified seventh, ahead of Hamilton for the fourth race in a row. He had never been ahead of a teammate in Jeddah.

In the first part of qualifying, the same five riders dropped out as in Bahrain.

Race

Max Verstappen won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, taking his second victory of the season and the 56th of his career, reaching the podium for the 100th time.

For Max, this is the ninth win in a row, the second longest streak in Formula 1 history. Sebastian Vettel took the same number of wins from Belgium to Brazil in 2013, and only Verstappen took more wins from Miami to Monza last year.

Verstappen had never won the first two races of a season before.

After achieving the 115th victory, Red Bull Racing surpassed Williams in this indicator and took fourth place in history. Only Mercedes (125 wins), McLaren (183) and Ferrari (243) lead the way.

Sergio Perez finished second, allowing Ed Bull Racing to secure their 30th victory double – they are fifth in the rankings for this indicator.

Charles Leclerc finished the race in third. Ferrari remains the only team besides Red Bull to finish on the podium in 2024.

Oscar Piastri finished fourth and achieved McLaren’s best ever performance in Jeddah.

Berman became the third youngest driver to achieve points in Formula 1 (18 years 10 months and 1 day) after Lance Stroll (18 years 7 months and 13 days) and Max Verstappen (17 years 5 months and 29 days).

Berman became the 68th driver to earn points in his debut race.

Lewis Hamilton, who finished ninth in a Mercedes, scored points in all four Formula 1 races in Jeddah but has now failed to finish in the top six for five races.

For the first time since the 1968 French Grand Prix, four British drivers scored points in the same race.

Nico Hulkenberg finished tenth to give Haas F1 its first points of the season.

Esteban Ocon’s 13th place was Alpine’s best result this year.
