In Jeddah, Lando Norris moved a little before the starting traffic light and then explained how he escaped punishment.
The McLaren driver immediately realized that he had reacted prematurely and immediately stopped the car, staying within range of the transponder on the grid. The stewards assessed the situation and did not punish him – according to the regulations, the fact of a false start is determined only by the transponder signal.
Lando Norris: “I stopped in time. This has never happened to me in my life, here somehow everything happened by itself. The stewards investigated everything, fortunately there was no restart.
In the beginning everything happens so quickly that you react instinctively. Maybe I saw another light signal – there were a lot of lights there. In the beginning you are so full of adrenaline that you can react to anything.
There were many other examples where drivers stopped the car at the last minute and no penalties followed. I am also happy that I was not punished.”
