Mercedes chief Toto Wolff said he is considering several candidates to replace Lewis Hamilton in 2025. The team will not rush into making a choice as they want to evaluate the performance of potential candidates this season.
Toto Wolff: “I would really like to include Max in our team, but first we have to sort out the car. It is now our responsibility to give George Russell and Lewis Hamilton an improved car that is good enough to fight with. And only then can we dream about the 2025 season.
We plan to wait to make a decision on the lineup. The team has some interesting options and we want to see how the season develops to evaluate the young riders and the slightly older riders.
A decision won’t be made for a few weeks. It is rather a matter of a few months, depending on how circumstances develop.”
When asked if Max Verstappen is at the top of the list of potential candidates, Toto said: “Let’s put it this way: Max has to make the decision. There is not a single team, at the front or back of the pack, that would not do everything in their power to get him behind the wheel of their car.”
