Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa said he would fight to the end in his lawsuit against the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula One Management (FOM).
On Monday, it was learned that Massa had filed a lawsuit in the High Court in London against the FIA, FOM and his former boss Bernie Ecclestone over the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix scandal. The Brazilian insists that the outcome of the race is canceled and also believes that the championship title, which he missed on the last lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix, should belong to him.
“I always said I would fight until the end. Since the FIA and FOM have decided to do nothing, we will seek to correct this historic injustice in court. Now the matter is in the hands of the lawyers, and they have every right to do whatever is necessary for justice to prevail in sport,” Massa said, as quoted by Le 10 Sport.
At the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Massa led until the 17th lap, but Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. caused an accident and deliberately crashed his own car so that his Spanish teammate Fernando Alonso would “gain a strategic advantage” and wins the race. McLaren-Mercedes team driver Lewis Hamilton finished third at the Singapore Grand Prix, Massa finished 13th. At the end of the season, Hamilton won the championship title, one point ahead of the Brazilian.
