The legal team representing Massa announced yesterday that it had filed a lawsuit against the FIA, FOM and Bernie Ecclestone over the results of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Rob Smedley, Massa’s racing engineer at the time, said on the Formula For Success podcast that he accepted they hadn’t won the title at the time, but he didn’t mind the Brazilian trying to challenge it.
Rob Smedley: “I think the racing gods decided that way that season. But Felipe is one of my best friends, if he decides to do this, it’s his will.
I’m one of those people who never looks back. I don’t care what happened yesterday, what matters more to me is what will happen today and tomorrow, and how I can influence that.
It would be great to win the World Championship in 2008. We didn’t win, Lewis won and the man with the most points at the end of the season deserves to win, but those points are awarded. That’s what racing is like.
Sometimes you’re lucky and you get points you shouldn’t get, sometimes you don’t and you get deducted from points you earned. That’s the point, and that’s why the World Championship consists of many races. As the season progresses, everything becomes more even.
I don’t know how it will end. I’ll watch this from a distance and we’ll see where it goes.”
