Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko commented on Oliver Berman’s debut in Formula 1. In Jeddah, the 18-year-old British driver replaced Carlos Sainz in Ferrari, qualified confidently and raced, earning points.
Helmut Marko: “I think Oliver’s debut is sensational. On a song like in Jeddah he performed powerfully, without much preparation. Sometimes his lap times were comparable to those of Charles Leclerc.
Ferrari bought the expensive Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc has a long-term contract and now Berman shows that he has super talent. If I were Frederic Vasseur, I would find Oliver a place behind the wheel of Formula 1 at another team, for example in Haas. But Ferrari will have to pay for it. Now all teams have relatively no problems with finances, so the place is expensive.
Berman, but also our own Liam Lawson last season, or MotoGP debutant Pedro Acosta, show what exceptional talents they are. Of course, today’s young riders are well prepared for their debut, but only if someone is really good can he show such results from the start.”
