Lewis Hamilton will partner Charles Leclerc at Ferrari next season. Former Formula 1 team manager Flavio Briatore thinks that it will not be easy for the seven-time world champion to stay ahead of the Monegasque.
Flavio Briatore: “If Hamilton were at Ferrari today, he would show the same results as Leclerc. Charles is a fast racer, but he is often underestimated. Hamilton’s ability is undeniable, but the competition within the team with Leclerc could prove tougher than Lewis thinks.
After all, he might have trouble staying ahead of Charles. Hamilton is the kind of driver who doesn’t give his best if the car isn’t good enough.
Now Ferrari can be considered the second force, but this position does not suit them. The car has to improve and with the gaps we have now, no driver can change the situation.”
On Red Bull Racing’s form, Briatore said: “This year they are more competitive than last year – the advantage over the rest is huge. Verstappen is eight tenths faster than everyone else and he is not wrong about that. His synergy with Red Bull is terrifying and reminiscent of the synergy of Ayrton Senna with McLaren, Fernando Alonso with Renault and Michael Schumacher with Ferrari.”
