Lando Norris said he is not worried about Red Bull Racing’s lead at the start of the season. The McLaren driver is more surprised that many of the rivals were closer to the championship team than you would expect.
Lando Norris: “To be honest, I’m not worried at all about Max’s lead. It should be taken into account that they had a very long time to develop and create this year’s car. With that in mind, I’m quite happy with how close we are to Red Bull.
Max didn’t have it that easy in qualifying either, although the race turned out to be convincing. I am sure that after the concept change they will continue to learn the characteristics of their car.
I think everyone expected Red Bull to stay ahead, that was no surprise. The surprise was how close we and many other teams were to them.
In Bahrain, Carlos Sainz was comparable in speed to Sergio Perez, and if Carlos had not gotten stuck behind Sergio in the second segment, the gap to Max at the finish would have been even smaller. I think this is a sign of hope for all of us.”
