Oliver Berman, who drove his debut Formula 1 race in Jeddah last weekend, said he received many messages and well wishes before the start. Among those who wrote to Oliver was four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
“I received a lot of congratulations and a lot of happiness before the race,” said Oliver Berman after the race weekend. – My favorite was Sebastian Vettel’s message. I’ve been a fan of his since I was a kid and he was my reference until he retired. So the message I received from him was very important to me.
I knew Sebastian would be watching the race and that made me feel extra pressure. But it was a nice push.
After the finish, Stefano Domenicali sent me a very nice message, which I was very happy with. After the race, Lewis Hamilton hugged me. It was great that he knew how my race went. It was a proud moment for me.”
Speaking about the differences between a Formula 1 race weekend and a Formula 2 race weekend, Oliver said: “What struck me most about a Formula 1 race weekend was the amount of administrative work – dealing with the press and a lot more technical work than in Formula 2.
The race started at 8pm local time and to give me time to prepare, I arrived at the track around lunchtime. The days in Formula 1 are very long and we have a lot of work. It came as a surprise to me, but I’m still happy.”
