Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc were on the podium during the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia stages, losing only to their rivals from Red Bull Racing. Scuderia head Frederic Vasseur sees this as a reason for optimism and is confident his team can give the champions a fight.
Frederic Vasseur: “I don’t want to be considered a pessimist, because we had a good weekend in Jeddah. You must remain confident and enjoy these results.
It’s clear that Red Bull is still ahead of us. In qualifying their lead is two to three tenths per lap, and in the race a little more. But it is difficult to estimate the actual balance of forces, because we do not know whether Red Bull had to attack with full force. I feel like if we manage to do everything perfectly, we can force a fight on them.
The team must continue to improve in all areas, which was our focus last year. We have made progress and we must continue to work in this direction, but at the same time accelerate.”
