Bottas became an “honorary Australian”. But unofficial

Valtteri Bottas will take part in the Adelaide Motorsport Festival this weekend and was today awarded the unofficial title of ‘honourary Australian’.

The Finnish Sauber racer raced around the city circuit behind the wheel of the historic Holden VK Commodor, in which Australian Larry Perkins and New Zealander Denny Hulme raced in the V8 Supercars series in the mid-1980s, after which, to the applause of a large local audience, Speedcafe journalists proclaimed him an ‘honorary Australian’ and received a cap with the corresponding symbols.

“Thank you! I’m just at a loss for words!” said Valtteri, who is also one of this year’s ambassadors for the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. On the festival stage, Valtteri spoke to David Croft, a popular TV commentator for Sky Sports F1, and answered questions from fans.

He then demonstrated the historic Brabham BT62 and a CG891 from March 1989, one of the first cars designed by Adrian Newey.

From Adelaide Valtteri goes to Melbourne, where the third stage of the World Championship will take place, and here it is worth mentioning an interesting fact: on the advertising poster for the upcoming race, created on behalf of the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix we see the Finn in the company of Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri!

The comment on the poster on the promoter’s official social media page reads: “Three of our Australians!”

And this is yet another confirmation that Valtteri is already considered one of their own in Australia. Let’s not forget that his girlfriend is the professional Australian cyclist Tiffany Cromwell, so Bottas often visits the “green continent”, spending his free time here and working on his business projects.
