Fans of Sauber and its drivers are despondent, and with good reason: things are clearly not going well for the Swiss team at the start of the season. After two Grands Prix, there are no more points to its name, the C44 car clearly lacks efficiency and, moreover, the team’s pit stops rarely go without problems.
In both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia there were problems replacing tires due to stuck wheel nuts. In the first case, Valtteri Bottas’ car was in the Sauber pits for 52 seconds, in the second case Guanyu Zhou lost 22 seconds during a pit stop.
Journalists from the Swiss tabloid Blick calculated that Bottas and Zhou lost a total of 100.01 seconds over seven pit stops in two races of the season. For comparison: over the entire last season, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz only needed 98.14 seconds for 34 pit stops.
We can only hope that Sauber in Melbourne can achieve improvements in this area at least.
