We’ve already discussed the RB team’s plans to move its aerodynamics department from Bicester, UK, to a new building in Milton Keynes, located next to the Red Bull Racing base.
Team manager Laurent Mekies clarified the plans and said the closure of the Bicester base and move to a new location is planned for the end of 2024.
Laurent Mekies: “Our aerodynamics department, future development department and part of the design department are located in Bicester. This location was once chosen because it was close to the wind tunnel.
Fifteen years ago we had fewer staff than we do today and a base in Bicester made sense. Now, compared to then, our aerodynamics department has tripled in size and we do not use this wind tunnel because we have switched to another one. As a result, the Bicester base became meaningless.
“So we will leave Bicester at the end of the year and move to a new base in Milton Keynes next to Red Bull.”
