Liam Lawson is ready to replace Daniel Ricciardo at RB

Daniel Ricciardo spent the first two races of the new season so unimpressively that numerous pundits began to speculate about the impending demise of the Australian driver’s career.

On the eve of the Melbourne stage, Fox Sports asked Red Bull Racing reserve driver Liam Lawson if he was ready to replace Ricciardo at the wheel of RB if Daniel did not start showing results.

“Absolutely done,” Liam replied. “I think Daniel knows the car has potential and I’m sure he expects a step forward.

Nowadays it is difficult for young drivers to break into Formula 1. This year, for the first time, the composition of the teams has not changed compared to the previous season. It’s especially hard to get a spot when there are several guys vying for it. I feel I’m ready, but the other pilots are ready too.

My goal is to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible. Red Bull is quite merciless towards its drivers. Of course I would love to drive for them, but ultimately I want to drive in Formula 1 anyway.”
