Gunter Steiner flew to Australia early last weekend to participate in the Motorsport Festival in Adelaide. The former Haas F1 team boss took the spotlight and commented on several key issues currently occupying the minds of journalists and fans alike.
He was first asked about the Horner case during an interview with ABC Australia.
“There will be people in Red Bull’s senior management who are wondering what to do next? – Steiner reasoned. “I don’t think you can just say in a situation like this that such and such a man or such and such a woman behaved wrongly.” I don’t know this and I just hope that, for the benefit of Formula 1 as a whole, we can somehow overcome the current situation.
Red Bull has to make some decision, and whatever it is, Formula 1 has to move on. I think it’s better for everyone involved in this issue.”
It seems that this scandalous story can only affect the work of the Red Bull Racing team, but it continues to win races: in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez made it two winning doubles in a row.
“I sincerely hope that the competition will become fiercer this year,” said Steiner. – But so far it is the other way around: there are five top teams and five teams at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship. I get the impression that these are almost two different championships. But if Ferrari can effectively modernize their car and make progress, then we can hope that they can pose a real challenge to Red Bull in the second half of the season.”
Günter Steiner will work as an expert with the Australian television company Channel 10 in the Albert Park paddock during the race weekend, but does not rule out returning to Formula 1 in a different capacity in the future.
When asked the question: “If you meet a billionaire who is willing to invest money in creating a Formula 1 team, will you come back?”, Steiner cheerfully replied: “I don’t know if I would want to be a team leader again , but you can always take on other tasks. “I never said I would never return because it is unknown how the circumstances will turn out. Perhaps the creation of a new team, when a new era in Formula 1 dawns, will open up some opportunities.”
