In Australia, the Sauber team will be hoping to correct the unenviable position it found itself in after the first two rounds of the season, especially after the race in Saudi Arabia, where Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou finished last.
Alessandro Aluni Braviteam spokesperson: “We are going to Melbourne with the intention of quickly turning the situation around after a difficult weekend in Saudi Arabia.
Australia is an important stage in the championship for us and for all our partners. During this race the fans show all their love for the drivers, for the teams, for our sport, and this is great advertising for Formula 1. We will try to do our best to keep this attitude of the public, which motivates us to fight, pay back.
When we returned to Hinwil from Jeddah, we regrouped and went back to work, analyzing what we were doing wrong and making a plan on how we could improve.
One of the positive things we noticed after two races in the Middle East is that our car has good pace. We also plan to increase the speed in one fast lap to compete for higher starting positions. To this end, we are bringing a number of technical innovations to Australia.
The first races of the season showed that the results are very close, and we understand that success depends on us being able to fully realize the car’s potential. We are prepared to do everything we can to enter into a dispute for places in the top ten.”
Valtteri Bottas: “I’m happy to be back in Australia. It’s no secret that this race is almost my home for me, and I want to show a good result to satisfy the fans. The Australian public receives us very well, you can feel that as soon as we appear in Albert Park.
The race in Jeddah was a difficult race for our team, but we worked hard at the team base over the past week to resolve the issues that prevented us from realizing the car’s potential.
Albert Park is a great track and I have always loved racing there. I won the Australian Grand Prix in 2019, so I have good memories of Melbourne. Now I am even more motivated and this weekend I want to show a good result to prove to our direct rivals that we are also fighting for points. I hope everything works out for us. But for that we have to start the weekend normally.”
Guanyu Zhou: “After the previous two seasons I have great memories of Melbourne and overall it’s a great weekend of racing in Australia. The Chinese diaspora in this city is quite large and I feel the support of my compatriots as many of them will also be in the stands of the circuit. This will prepare us to some extent for what awaits us in Shanghai in just over a month.
After the first two races I am determined to fight and really want to show good results. In Bahrain we were just behind the top ten, but also in Jeddah we showed good pace, but then I started having problems.
But now all this is in the past and we have carefully analyzed everything that happened then – I hope we were able to solve the problem. I want to get to work on the track as quickly as possible and make improvements.”
