Ferrari expects Carlos Sainz to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car again during the third round of the season in Melbourne. The Spanish racer has already arrived in Australia, but his physical form raises certain questions among observers.
In particular, the officially recognized podium photographer, Kim Illman, wrote on social networks that Carlos’ movements seemed restricted to him: “On Wednesday I photographed Carlos in the Albert Park paddock after he returned from a bike ride along the track with his engineers. When Carlos got off the bike, his movements seemed restricted to me.
I spoke with Carlos for a few minutes and I’m not 100% sure that his body is ready for the stress that awaits us in a tough race in Formula 1. In the pits he showed the seam to the mechanics and explained that he was going to use a pad between the body and the belt to reduce pressure on the seam.
I think Carlos is getting his first training to assess his condition. If he thinks there are risks, he will make room for Ollie Berman.
However, I was told that Prema had not invited a reserve driver to Australia because the team believed that Ollie’s services would not be needed by Ferrari.”
