After Oliver Berman’s successful Formula 1 debut at the wheel of a Ferrari in Jeddah, the 18-year-old Brit was seen in the paddock as one of the contenders for a seat at Haas next season. In Melbourne, current American team driver Nico Hulkenberg commented on Berman’s prospects.
“Last year he did well in practice in Mexico City and Abu Dhabi, and in Jeddah he raced confidently without making any mistakes,” Racingnews365 quotes Nico. “He was driving the second fastest car and you could see it really made a difference. It was hard for all of us in the middle of the pack to see this, but it is what it is.
Berman took part in Formula 2 last year, got used to this series and also worked a lot on the Formula 1 simulator. Apparently he quickly felt comfortable behind the wheel of a Ferrari, as he was well prepared.
I think it’s too early to talk about his prospects for next season. First of all, a lot is expected of him in Formula 2. If he doesn’t have a very good season, everyone will forget about the race in Jeddah in two days. I think he is now under a lot of pressure because they expect results from him in Formula 2.”
