Oscar Piastri was born in Melbourne and now came to his home Grand Prix for the second time…
Question: Oscar, as a child you played football and cricket a few meters away from where we are now. How special is this race?
Oscar Piastri: A home race is special for every racer. I grew up 10-15 minutes from Albert Park. So this is literally a home race, I’m happy to be back.
Question: What result are you hoping for this weekend?
Oscar Piastri: If we estimate our chances realistically, the car is now the third fastest. In Jeddah we were able to get a little closer to Ferrari, but we are still behind.
I think our real rival is Mercedes. I don’t want to deprive the fans of hope, but to get a place higher than fifth, we will need luck.
Q: How proud are you that your name is on the straight line of Melbourne’s karting track?
Oscar Piastri: It is an honor. It was at the Oakleigh track where I started karting many years ago.
I spoke to Lando a few hours ago. He was there yesterday. This is one of the most difficult routes in the country. I think his ribs still hurt. One day I will return there.
Q: When did you first come to Albert Park to watch a race live?
Oscar Piastri: In 2015. I was on the grid holding the flag for Daniil Kvyat, but his car broke down on the warm-up lap. I didn’t bring him any luck that weekend. But this was the first Formula 1 race I saw live.
