Jean Alesi, president of the Paul Ricard circuit, will take part in the historic French Grand Prix, which will be held at this circuit from April 19 to 21.
In the period from 1989 to 2001. he spent 201 races in Formula 1 and now Alesi will have to return behind the wheel of one of the Ferrari cars he knows from his time at the Scuderia. The organizers have not yet announced what these are. But it is known that during this interesting event, Gerhard Berger will drive the championship car McLaren MP4/6 on the circuit in Le Castellet, where Ayrton Senna won in 1991. That year the great Brazilian won his third and final title, with Berger as his partner.
But these are not all the stars of recent years that will be seen by fans of motorsport history who will gather in the stands of the French circuit on the penultimate weekend of April. The participation of Alain Prost, four-time world champion, was previously announced and he will recall his youth behind the wheel of the McLaren M29, in which he made his Formula 1 debut in 1980.
And the organizers of the historic Grand Prix promised to at least partially recreate the famous events that took place at the Dijon circuit on July 1, 1979, when the legendary duel between Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Arnoux took place.
In the closing laps of that French Grand Prix they battled for 2nd place, which ultimately went to the Canadian, and the archived video of that fundamental battle is endlessly watchable. After 45 years, Arnoux will once again take a seat in the cockpit of his Renault RS10 and Villeneuve’s Ferrari 312 T4 will be driven by the current owner of this car.
