Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen showed the sixteenth and nineteenth fastest times respectively in the second training session of the Australian Grand Prix. Haas is pleased with the speed over the long series of laps, but notes that there is still work to be done on the qualifying pace.
Nico Hulkenberg (16th): “Today it was very windy, which was the reason for numerous flights. Albert Park is a fast circuit where there is no room for error, but it is very easy to make a mistake.
Friday went without any problems for us. We worked according to the standard program, in preparation for tomorrow. I feel that the speed in one lap is not good enough today, so there is still work to be done to improve in qualifying mode.
Regarding the long distance, the car drove better than with an empty tank. These are pleasant changes compared to last year. Now the challenge comes down to optimizing the settings to be fast with both an empty and a full tank.”
Kevin Magnussen (19th): “We have had two productive training sessions, so I am curious to see what results we can achieve tomorrow. The competition is very tight, so we could end up anywhere, but we expect to fight for tenth or eleventh place.
I went with an empty tank on soft tires but couldn’t set a good time because I messed up the fastest laps. On the Medium tyres, speed looks promising in all three sectors, so we have the pace.”
