Oscar Piastri was happy to be training in Melbourne because this is his birthplace and the stands at the Albert Park circuit have been filled since Friday with his compatriots, who gave him a truly warm welcome. The Australian McLaren driver was in good spirits and was slightly faster than his teammate Lando Norris.
Oscar Piastri (7th): “The first day in Melbourne went well overall. The work has been somewhat unstable, but we can definitely say that we are already noticing positive signs.
Now we have to analyze everything and understand how we can improve tomorrow, but still I am happy to compete on my home track. And although we have to work on some aspects, I am quite optimistic.”
Lando Norris (9th): “More or less normal day. The gusts of wind make it difficult to gain confidence while driving, so the feeling was not optimal, but I think we still showed a decent pace. We can compete with the best teams, which is a good sign.
I’m looking forward to an interesting qualifying session, but we have to work hard to get the most out of the car.”
Andrea Stella, team leader: “The training day in Melbourne was productive. While working with the settings we were able to check everything we had planned, including analyzing the behavior of the tires, as this will be an interesting factor on which the choice of tactics on Sunday will depend.
When we talk about results, the results of the day are encouraging. Overall the car makes a good impression, although some parameters need improvement. In the evening we will have to analyze a large amount of information in preparation for qualifying and the race.”
