The Sauber team has prepared a new front wing for the C44 car for the Australian round of the championship, and one of the main tasks that Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou carried out during training was to extensively test this element and everything related to it connected.
Valtteri Bottas (14th): “We worked productively, understood the car and, first of all, analyzed the effectiveness of new products brought to Australia. Today we focused on executing the planned program and working with the settings, managing to make some progress, although the full potential of the car has not yet been revealed.
This work will continue, because we want to fight at least to reach the second part of the qualifications, but if everything is done correctly we can try to reach the final.
When we talk about what happens off the track, everything is just great in Melbourne and we see how passionate the fans are here. They create a great atmosphere, give us energy and I hope we can please the crowd this weekend.”
Guanyu Zhou “11th): “It’s always nice to come back to Melbourne. The fans here are incredibly passionate, so working on the track is a lot of fun. The main task for today is to understand how the new products work and to what extent the condition of the track changes.
I managed to find a good rhythm and after completing the training I got the impression that the car was quite capable of attacking. This is a sign that the team’s efforts are paying off – I’m talking about the racing crew and everyone who works at the base in Hinwil.
Between the two sessions we made a number of changes to the settings: it seems like every step we take in the process of upgrading the chassis is a step in the right direction.
The updated front wing has been designed to optimize the overall balance of the car, and we will continue to gather information on the C44’s performance throughout the weekend. The quest for refinement will also continue and I look forward to the main events of the weekend as I am confident we can get close to the top ten.”
