McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri reached final qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, achieving a fourth and sixth finish. After Sergio Perez’s penalty, they each lost one position and both started from the top five.
Lando Norris (4th): “I’m happy with today because I think we got a good result.
Before today we made a lot of adjustments to the car, which allowed us to make good steps forward – now I am much more satisfied with the car’s behavior. It became more comfortable to fly, which allowed me to increase my speed. So thank you to everyone at the circuit and at the base in Woking for their help.
A good day, a good starting position – I hope we will convert this into deserved points tomorrow.”
Oscar Piastri (6th): “Sixth place in qualifying. A decent session, although I probably did my best lap a little earlier than necessary! In the second part I was very fast, but in the final I couldn’t repeat the same speed, so I have mixed feelings.
We have already shown that our car has a high race pace, so we will see what result we can achieve tomorrow.”
Andrea Stella, Team Boss: “The successful qualifying allowed both drivers to take good positions at the start. We know that tire degradation and race speed will be crucial tomorrow, so we are happy with the fourth and sixth time, bearing in mind that at times this weekend it seemed like we had problems with speed. Kudos to the team and the riders for being able to change the situation and optimize every detail.
Lando and Oscar showed fast laps and improved every session. Oscar lost some rhythm in the final and lost time, but this did not have a major impact on his starting position.
Now all attention is focused on tomorrow’s race, in which we want to gain a lot of points.”
