In Australia, George Russell showed the seventh result in qualifying, while his famous teammate, Lewis Hamilton, did not qualify at all for the final session, which happens quite rarely for him.
George Russell (7th): “Qualifying didn’t go as we had hoped, but the results are very tight. In tomorrow’s race we will have to solve problems with many unknowns, because no one has driven on hard tires yet. I think we’re in for a more exciting Grand Prix than we normally see in Melbourne.
But I already feel more confident behind the wheel of our car, which allows me to work more consistently. At the same time, we know we have to improve on fast corners, as there are quite a few of them on the Melbourne circuit.
I think tomorrow, when there is more fuel in the tanks of the cars and the pace of our rivals slows down a bit, things will go better. Although this route is not the best for our W15.
I can’t say what Lewis’s problems are related to, I’m just completely focused on my job and will try to do everything I can. In any case, we are not yet at the level we want to be. Seventh place is not an ideal result, but we certainly have something to fight for tomorrow.”
Lewis Hamilton (11th): “In the third training everything went well and it was even a bit strange, because we were almost not behind the leaders and didn’t understand why. But when qualifying started the car behaved unstable again and this was very confusing.
George did well today, and my situation is what it is. Tomorrow I’ll just try to do my job better. I think our car is behaving too nervously. The wind usually gets stronger during the day and that was the case yesterday during the second training. And when this happens, the car becomes less stable.
This morning everything went well, but the wind was weaker then and as soon as it got stronger it affected the stability. In addition, other teams were able to improve in qualifying. In general, the mood is poor and I’m worried about our whole team, but we’ll just keep attacking.”
