Komatsu: The result is better than expected

Today in Melbourne, the Haas F1 team scored points with two cars for the first time since Austria 2022…

Ayo Komatsu, team leader: “Great day, because we earned points with two cars! After yesterday’s qualifying I said we are waiting for a better pace in the race, but two cars in the top ten is better than expected.

You have to do everything perfectly to be able to take the last free positions. Everything was perfect that day.”

Nico Hulkenberg (9th): “The first virtual safety car mode helped me, then I overtook a car at every pit stop – it made my race.

If the top five teams finish at full strength we have no chance of scoring points, but today one of the best cars had an accident and Verstappen had to retire – and we took our chance. Today the car behaved better than during yesterday’s qualifying, which makes us optimistic.”

Kevin Magnussen (10th): “Thanks to the excellent work of the team, we were able to earn points with two cars today. The virtual machine didn’t help me, but Niko was able to return to the battle, earning us three points.

The result is encouraging. Last year we woke up on race day knowing things weren’t going to go well. Today I woke up knowing we would have a fighting chance. We are more competitive in the race than in qualifying, we have to keep working in this direction.”
