In Melbourne, Yuki Tsunoda scored the team’s first points of the season, and his RB teammate Daniel Ricciardo finished twelfth after failing to qualify…
Yuki Tsunoda (8th): “Finally finished in the top ten, the team deserved these points, I’m happy! We were stable all weekend, all that was left was to put everything together and run a flawless race, which eventually happened. We didn’t make any mistakes – this will give me and the team confidence for the next stages.
The team has done a great job, we are making progress every race. The difference with the car we raced in Melbourne a year ago is incredible.
To be honest, the race was not that easy: the participants increased their speed significantly, but I am very happy that we took our chance. Now we are optimistic about the next phase in Japan. I have not earned points there in Formula 1 before, I am going to try it this year.”
Daniel Ricciardo (12th): “I tried to forget the bad qualifying and enjoy the race as much as possible, which had some good sections. Many drivers, like me, had an early pit stop, but from the last places we had to try to do something.
I think I lost some time in the first stint with Hard due to tire granulation. It started quite quickly, but the second stint went better.
I managed a 1:21 lap before the blue flags came out, so there were some good moments during the race. However, we have something to improve. In some corners the car clearly did not have enough speed.
Of course I would like to have a better weekend and start the season better, but there is no need to panic. We keep working.”
