F2: Colapinto disqualified, two more penalties

For the second day in a row, the results of the Formula 2 races are adjusted after the finish, but if on Saturday the victory was taken away from Azeiq Hajar (which did not stop him from winning on Sunday), then this time the changes are had a less noticeable influence on the results.

But they still had an impact, as Franco Colapinto, the MP Motorsport driver who took 7th place, was disqualified for an offense that doesn’t happen very often. The reason for such harsh measures is set out in Article 1.5.2 of the Formula 2 Technical Regulations: we are talking about incorrect actions during the starting procedure. It turns out that the Argentinian driver did not press ‘two buttons that initiate special start settings’.

After Colapinto’s disqualification, the riders who finished behind him moved up one line in the final protocol, i.e. Rafael Villagomez received 6 points for 7th place, Victor Martin – 4 points for 8th, Oliver Berman – 2 points for 9th, and Jack Crawford rounded out the top ten and even earned two bonus points, as he was the author of the fast lap race.

Zach O’Sullivan received a 10-second time penalty, but because he did not reach the finish and could not serve the penalty, the British ART rider will lose five places at the start of the next round of the youth series. The stewards, who had studied the video recordings, determined that he was to blame for the incident with Roman Stanek, which took place in the third corner of the first lap.

Ultimately, Joshua Duerksen was given a 5-second time penalty, which for a similar reason will result in the loss of three starting positions in the Imola stage, which will be held on May 18 and 19. According to the stewards, the Paraguayan pilot was at fault for causing a collision with O’Sullivan in Turn 13.
