Max Verstappen showed the second fastest time in the second training session of the Australian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver said he damaged the underside of the car and the chassis in the first session. It took a long time for the damage to be repaired, which meant that Max did not start straight away in the second training session.
His teammate Sergio Perez set the eighth fastest time, more than eight-tenths behind leader Charles Leclerc, and noticed the Ferrari’s high speed over a long series of laps.
Max Verstappen (2nd): “Unfortunately the day turned out to be a bit hectic due to what happened during the first training. I came out of the corner wide and damaged the underbody and chassis. Unfortunately, it took us a long time to repair the damage – I lost twenty minutes.
Still, the car is fast and we were able to more or less complete the planned program. Of course we would have liked to do a few more laps, but as I said, we lost twenty minutes.
I think Ferrari drivers are fast, but we have speed too. I think I can gain back some time by adjusting the settings. There is no cause for concern.”
Sergio Perez (8th): “It’s difficult as usual in Melbourne, especially in the afternoon. Visibility is very poor because the sun shines in your face. In short, we still have some work to do. The rubber degradation turned out to be quite high over a long series of laps, so it is necessary to pay attention to this problem.
Ferrari drivers are quite fast. Apparently the job suits them better. They are fast over a long series of laps, so it won’t be easy to beat them this weekend. I think they can fight for pole and victory. Like I said, they are fast, so it will be interesting.”
