Sulayem: The accusations had a clear purpose

FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem was the subject of two internal investigations. The first relates to an attempt to influence the results of last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The second is that the FIA president last year ordered federation officials to find a way to prevent the Las Vegas circuit from being certified for safety compliance.

A few days after the ethics committee cleared him of the charges, Sulayem went on the offensive by writing a letter to FIA members.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem: “These vile accusations are intended to destabilize me as President of the FIA and call into question the integrity of our respected organization.

These events had a clear purpose: to strike at the core of our leadership, undermine the foundations of our federation, which was the victim of a malicious leak of confidential information, tarnish our reputation and sow fear among our members.

But despite these attacks on me and our organization as a whole, we have emerged stronger and more determined than ever before.

I am committed to the FIA’s spirit of transparency, accountability and unwavering integrity. I remain committed to my responsibilities as President of the FIA.”
