Komatsu: Magnussen had reasons to be angry with the team

The race in Melbourne was the first since 2022 in which both Haas drivers achieved points. Team boss Ayo Komatsu called Kevin Magnussen a real team player, although the Dane had reasons to be dissatisfied with the team due to the strategy chosen for him.

“During the first series of pit stops, Kevin lost two positions,” says Ayo Komatsu. “It shouldn’t have happened, but otherwise everything was great.” We made great pit stops and our drivers worked together in the second stint.

Kevin was on hard tires and Nico Hulkenberg on Medium because of the virtual safety car. Nico showed a faster pace and Kevin’s strategy was spoiled – not through his fault, but through the team’s fault. Kevin had every reason to be angry, but no: when we asked him to let his partner pass, he did so immediately. He knows how important it is to take advantage of opportunities like this, so he did everything right.”

Asked whether Magnussen and Hulkenberg would stay at Haas in 2025, Komatsu said: “I haven’t thought about it. The pilot market is open, we should come back to this matter in the near future. But until we get through the first four or five races, I will be fully focused on working together as a team.

I take my hat off to Kevin. He showed incredible teamwork. Just awesome”.
