Tom McCullough, chief engineer of the Aston Martin team, believes that the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix will allow the teams to assess their true position and progress made compared to last year.
Under the conditions of virtually unchanged technical regulations and the same tire compounds that Pirelli will bring to Suzuka, the teams will be able to compare the data obtained last season at the Japanese circuit and evaluate the progress made over six months.
“The race in Japan will be very interesting,” Tom McCullough shared his thoughts in Melbourne. – The reason is that we will have exactly the same tire composition and design as last year, the aerodynamic regulations have not changed either. If the weather is the same as in 2023 and the track temperature and wind strength remain unchanged, we will gain a correct insight into the balance of power.”
Ferrari chief racing engineer Jock Klea agrees with McCullough: “Based on the season calendar, we will have a very good idea of the balance of power after four races. The Japanese circuit is great for judging cars. We will learn a lot at this track.”
