Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Formula 1 technical director Pat Symonds said the development of today’s cars will continue – and that there are still many surprises ahead.
Pat Symonds: “Remember, we showed a prototype of the car in 2020 under the new regulations and planned to present it in 2021. Then everything was postponed by the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning the car didn’t appear until 2022.
At the time, many people said the new rules were too strict and did not allow for different interpretations, and we responded by showing images of different interpretations.
I was happy when we saw many different solutions in 2022. There is only one solution for every technical problem, but fortunately that is still a long way off. There is development, we see different options in certain areas, side pontoons with extraction, interesting aerodynamics and Red Bull suspension, a lot of things. I cannot say that I expected exactly this development of events.
It’s great that change is still happening, and from conversations with Adrian Newey I know it’s far from over. There’s a lot more to come.”
