Former Formula 1 driver Mark Zurer thinks age is starting to influence Fernando Alonso’s speed, but so far this has only been noticeable in qualifying…
Mark Zurer: “As you get older, you lose speed. It is undeniable. Now this is mainly noticeable in qualifying, but in the future it will increasingly have an influence. Fernando is very good, but is no longer one of the absolute best drivers.
He fights very hard in the race. He is a real fighter and knows how to use tires optimally. He doesn’t need instructions, he doesn’t need hints from an engineer. He uses his experience and has no problems with motivation.
In Melbourne, Alonso lost to Stroll in qualifying and the race, but this is just an episode, a failed weekend in which he failed to find the optimal settings. He made more mistakes than normal and showed worse results, but in the next race everything will be different.”
