In the first races of the season, RB driver Daniel Ricciardo was regularly outpaced by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. This was not only an unpleasant surprise for the Australian’s fans, but also for Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko.
Helmut Marko: “We are all surprised about what is wrong with Daniel: he is consistently slower than Yuki. He is not succeeding at something, and that is surprising, since the winter tests went very well for him. But at this point, Yuki is clearly faster.
For comparison we need another racer. The question is: is it Yuki who has improved or has Daniel become so slow? After three races on three completely different circuits we have no answer to this question.”
Asked about Sergio Perez’s chances of staying with Red Bull Racing in 2025, Marco said: “Sergio has had three good races this year. The reason he fell behind in Melbourne was due to damaged underbody and tire degradation.
Sergio’s only weakness is his speed in qualifying. If he can improve in this area, we won’t even have to think about replacing him. Partly thanks to him, there is a good atmosphere in the team.”
Asked whether the ‘case of Horner’, who was accused of ‘improper behaviour’, could be considered closed, Marco replied: ‘There are no questions from the Thai shareholders. They’re doing fine. Will anything happen in this case? I have no idea. This is a complex issue that is not easy to understand.”
