George Russell called the events that take place at the circuit during race weekends “the tip of the iceberg” and told the Mercedes press office about what he does between Grand Prix.
George Russell: “The race track is just the tip of the iceberg, but the work that goes on at the team base is extremely important. This is where everyone tries to improve the efficiency of the machine. Take the recent Australian Grand Prix for example. Our plane landed in London at midnight, but I’m not switching to local time yet but will try to stick to a schedule that better suits the Far East time zone as we have a stage in Japan in a few weeks .”
Regardless of the results of the race, it is necessary to analyze everything together with the team as soon as possible, find out what could have been done better and how to avoid recurrence of certain difficulties in the next stages of the championship. George, together with his racing engineer and other employees, always exchanges ideas, including about the process of further modernizing the car.
“Sometimes you realize straight after qualifying that you have discovered some nuances, and this information can be useful for some other races later in the season,” continued Russell. “In the world we live in, we always have to look ahead.”
He also spoke about his approach to maintaining physical fitness: “When I’m at home I usually do two workouts a day, and this continues until Monday of race week. The days go by very quickly.”
