Mika Hakkinen’s daughter is making progress in karting

In the fall of 2021, Mika Häkkinen shared a story about his children enjoying karting: Ella, who was 11 years old at the time, and 7-year-old Daniel. We also wrote about that then, and now there is a reason to commemorate this, because Ella Hakkinen, who turns 14 this year, is achieving her first successes at international level.

Yesterday she won the Junior category in karting competitions in the Italian city of Cremona, held under the auspices of the “Champions of the Future” Academy. On the track she crossed the finish line in second, but the young Australian racer James Anagostidis, who was the first to do so, was fined after the race.

But those who followed the progress of these junior competitions note that Ella really showed good speed, and her victory was not accidental.

The two-time world champion himself rarely comments on the successes of his children, and he did not do so this time either, but it is worth quoting his words spoken to his daughter last summer: “She is very talented, she has a rare talent, and she is distinguished by energy and determination. But I would rather assess her prospects with great caution because I don’t want to put pressure on her. But now motorsport needs women, and Ella loves racing. That’s why I support her as much as I can.”

The next phase of the ‘Champions of the Future’ competition will take place in Valencia, Spain in May.
