After the French Grand Prix, Alpine finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of McLaren. British team driver Lando Norris believes that if Alpine had not made mistakes at the start of the season, their points advantage over McLaren would have been much greater.
Lando Norris: “In qualifying, new tires and empty tanks hide most of our problems with the car. However, as soon as we have a lot of fuel and the tires are worn, all the problems appear and we just don’t have enough speed.
We lose the balance and we can show good times in qualifying. In return, we get problems with the handling of the front of the car when cornering and the like.
Alpine is much faster than us all season. However, they made too many mistakes while we were doing well and were ahead. We are now behind Alpine, which is a much more deserved result given the kind of car we have at our disposal.”
