Last year, Daniel Ricciardo resumed his Formula 1 career, replacing Nick de Vries on the podium in Hungary. The Australian racer denied suggestions that he ever pressured Red Bull management to refuse De Vries’ services.
Daniel Ricciardo: “I didn’t put any pressure on Red Bull and never said they should replace Nick with me. I always believed that if it had to happen, it would happen.
I then thought: “I will continue training in the simulator and do everything I can to show that I am getting back to my normal shape. If they invite me, I’m ready. If they don’t invite me, I will spend time on myself.
The team even contacted me sooner than I expected. It came as a surprise to me, but you can’t refuse such opportunities.”
Daniel Ricciardo added that he has no regrets about his decision to leave Red Bull Racing at the end of 2018: “I have no regrets because living with regrets is not the best option. I consider it a lesson learned.
I would like to know what results I would have achieved at Red Bull if I had stayed with the team? Of course, but now I have a second chance. I want to win races and relive the emotion you experience when you’re at the top of the podium. “I returned to Formula 1 because I think I can still achieve such results.”
