Kimi Antonelli, a 17-year-old Italian driving for the Prema Formula 2 team, is considered one of the most talented young drivers. He has been mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes next season. In addition, not only numerous press, but also team leader Toto Wolff calls him a candidate.
In April, Mercedes plans to test Antonelli in action. Two days of private testing are planned for Kimi behind the wheel of the 2021 Mercedes W12 – on April 16 and 17 he will compete at the Austrian circuit in Spielberg.
For Antonelli, this will be his debut behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. The British press writes that more tests are planned for Kimi behind the wheel of a 2022 car during the season. It is possible that this will happen in Imola on April 30. Nothing is yet known about the young driver’s participation in the first training sessions of the official Formula 1 race weekends.
