British TV presenter and big motorsport fan Jeremy Clarkson asked a question in a recent column for The Sun following Carlos Sainz’s victory in the third round of the season in Melbourne: Is it really difficult to see a modern Formula 1 drive a car?
“Just days after having his appendix removed, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz flew to Australia, got in the car and won the race,” Clarkson writes. “It is completely normal that many people saw this as a heroic demonstration of strong determination and courage.”
Although I am interested in this. They keep telling us that Formula 1 cars are fighters on wheels, with a volcanic mixture of thunder and g-forces. And the driver must be a superman to drive such a car.
Real? I only ask because Carlos clearly had some discomfort in the hospital photos before the race, but it looks like he drove the car for almost two hours.
All this makes me think that nowadays it is much harder to get the chance to drive a Formula 1 car than to actually drive one.”
