Haas driver Kevin Magnussen praises the team’s chances at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but adds that the outcome of the race will largely depend on the starting position as it is difficult to overtake in Hungary.
Q: What do you expect from the VF-22 car on the Hungarian circuit?
Kevin Magnussen: Judging by the forecast, incredibly warm weather awaits us. In Hungary, a difficult circuit – because of the short straights there is no time to catch your breath. Physically we are waiting for a difficult race and the heat in Europe will only make the situation worse.
If we are talking about the car, then everything should be in order. I’m counting on it anyway, because so far the VF-22 has looked good on every type of track.
Q: What do you like about the Hungarian circuit?
Kevin Magnussen: I like the track, it’s a bit like a go-kart track, because you have to turn constantly and there are no long straights. The track is interesting, but it’s hard to overtake on it, so everyone wants to qualify high. The starting position is crucial this weekend.
Q: How do you rate the first half of the season?
Kevin Magnussen: The first half of the season was pretty fun. I had no expectations because I didn’t know I was going to perform, but everything went well. Our car is fast, but sometimes we didn’t earn points due to bad luck, but lately luck has been on our side.
The best memories are associated with the first race. Not only because I came back, but also because I got an excellent result. Worst memory? I do not have that.
Q: How do you plan to spend your summer vacation?
Kevin Magnussen: I will definitely go to Denmark to go sailing with my family, relax on the water and take a break from racing.
