Red Bull Racing pilot Sergio Perez became the owner of the race team. Team Mexico will compete in the UIM E1 World Championship, the inaugural season of which will take place in 2023.
Sergio Perez’s team has taken one of 12 vacancies in the new championship, hosted by Formula E co-founder Alejandro Agag and former McLaren Applied boss Rodi Basso. Perez and Agag are old acquaintances – in 2010 Sergio played for the Agag team in the GP2 youth series.
Sergio Pérez: “I am very happy to be the owner of the new team that will represent Mexico in the Electric Racing Boat World Championship. Given my connections with Alejandro, I have followed his projects closely and I believe he has succeeded in promoting more sustainable motorsport, which is commendable.
It’s just amazing to see a race team flying the Mexican flag on the world stage – can’t wait to see our boat in action for the first time. I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback about the boat and the exciting sports product E1 is trying to create for fans of urban activities.
There is no doubt that a serious challenge awaits me in my career – I still have a lot to learn. I look forward to getting started and helping to increase the number of Mexican fans around the world.”
