Lando Norris: Good starting position for McLaren

Lando Norris qualified third at Suzuka, behind just two Red Bull Racing entries. The McLaren driver is happy with his starting position and expects to be on the podium just like last year.

His teammate Oscar Piastri set the sixth fastest time in qualifying.

Lando Norris (3rd): “Exciting qualification! We don’t have many chances, but today the car was fast so I was able to participate. I did some good laps, especially in the final, and I’m very happy with today’s result. A good starting position for McLaren.

Last year we did well in the race and also in the last lap. [в Мельбурне]. In Suzuka our car has been fast all weekend and we have made good steps forward in our attempt to overtake Red Bull. They did a great job, so they deserved their result.

We also work hard, and slowly this work is paying off. We will continue to attack. A good start to the weekend, but the biggest work awaits tomorrow.”

Oscar Piastri (6th): “I think we were quite competitive in the first part of qualifying, but in the second session I was a little less satisfied with myself. The same thing happened in the final. I think I lost my rhythm a bit in the second part and then I couldn’t find it anymore.

It will be interesting to see how we could have improved, but if we talk about tomorrow, our car is capable of good race pace this season, and the Japanese circuit suits that well. However, our opponents are also fast, so we will see what we can achieve.

A lot will depend on the tactics and the weather factor can play a role, so it will be interesting!”
