Both McLaren drivers scored points in Suzuka, but regret the lack of speed…
Lando Norris (5th): “Difficult race. Compared to Ferrari we lacked speed. Everything came back: Red Bull, Ferrari and us.
It is a shame. It’s not very fun to start third but fall back. There is a feeling that the battle was lost in advance. They did everything better than us: they did more laps on one set of tires and at a better pace they used the strategy more effectively. This is difficult to deal with.
I did everything I could, finished behind the top two teams, but that’s all I could achieve.
Ferrari is clearly in the lead. We haven’t changed anything, there’s no reason why we could have taken the lead here.”
Oscar Piastri (8th): “We are not in the positions I would like to fight for. I just had a bit of bad luck with the tires and lacked speed. We need to understand the reasons a little bit.
Today showed that we have something to work on. We are clearly not at Ferrari’s level, we need to get more speed out of the car.
It wasn’t the best weekend for me either. You have to work on yourself, but even more important is to make the car faster.”
