Last year, the Italian team Prema Racing celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding, and in 2025 another important event in its history will take place: it will debut in the American IndyCar series.
It has been officially announced that two cars with Chevrolet hybrid powertrains will be released next season.
Prema is best known for its numerous victories in youth championships; it is enough to remember that Charles Leclerc, Mick Schumacher and Oscar Piastri became Formula 2 champions behind the wheel of his cars, and this season such promising drivers as Oliver Berman and Kimi Andrea are racing for Antonelli. Prema also participates in endurance races on both sides of the ocean, and in the near future the program will also be expanded to include IndyCar.
René Rosin, team boss: “This is a turning point in the history of Prema Racing. The dream of our family and everyone involved in our company is coming true: we are taking a step towards IndyCar and will participate in the famous Indy 500 race.
We have great respect for IndyCar, it is a very complex series with a rich history, and now we are preparing to be part of it. It is not easy to compete in IndyCar, but we are determined and will do everything we can, we will try to learn everything as quickly as possible and strive for high results from the start.”
Currently, up to 27 cars participate in IndyCar races at any one time, and from 2025 this will increase to 29 along with Prema, but it is possible that the series organizers will introduce some restrictions and cap the number of participants at all at the current level stages of the season, except the Indy 500. and then Prema will have to fight for places at the start during qualifying. So far, the team has not revealed the names of the riders it plans to work with.
