An interesting tradition has developed in Formula 1 in recent years: the national anthem of the country where the Grand Prix takes place is often played in an original interpretation before the start, to which famous conductors, arrangers and artists are invited.
On June 30, more than a hundred thousand spectators gathering at the Red Bull Ring to watch the Austrian leg of the World Championship will witness a special event, which will of course be broadcast around the world: the national anthem of the Republic of Austria will be played in an unusual arrangement, which was entrusted to the German team in preparation of composer Hans Zimmer, winner of two Oscars and four Grammys.
Zimmer is best known as a film score composer, and in this capacity he has achieved so much success that the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph included him in its list of ‘100 Living Geniuses’ in 2007.
Martin Grubinger, a popular Austrian percussionist, and 50 amateur musicians, who will be selected from the fans, will be involved in the performance of his version of the national anthem. Acceptance of applications has already begun; for this you need to download the MyGroove application, learn to play the anthem on any instrument as interpreted by Hans Himmer, make a demo recording and send it to the jury.
“In my new interpretation I tried to pay tribute to the Austrian national anthem, but at the same time give it a new sound,” said Hans Zimmer. – This interpretation will be more rock ‘n’ roll, more electronic and, I would say, riskier. What attracts me to Anthem of Your Life is the same thing that attracts me to music in general: it’s an opportunity for everyone to join in a common cause and become a musician, at least for one day.”
Applications can be submitted until June 7, 12 noon. By the way, it was Martin Grubinger who was the author of the idea of involving fans in the performance of the anthem, and in general he is a master of the highest level – we recommend watching something performed by him ; there are quite a few examples of his work on YouTube. You will not regret it.
And there is no doubt that the original performance of the Austrian national anthem, which we will hear on the last Sunday of June, will make a strong impression.
