The day before we quoted Esteban Ocon’s gloomy statement about the shortcomings of the Alpine car, which, in his words, “is inferior in everything.” The head of the Renault factory team, Bruno Famen, does not hide the fact that the situation is difficult, but assures that his subordinates are doing everything they can to achieve improvements.
The day before he arrived at the team’s base in Grove, assessed the situation and then said: “After the first four races of the season we are not at the level we would like to be at. Of course, the level of our results is now very low, but we all know that the path in motorsport, including Formula 1, is a series of successes and failures.
We are going through a difficult period, but rest assured we are all working hard, both on the track and at the bases in Viry and Enstone, in an effort to increase the car’s speed. We are preparing technical innovations and trying to ensure that the team achieves improvements, and I am happy that all employees are working together harmoniously to produce new machine parts.
It’s nice that everyone is working hard – this applies to our technical department, and to the racing team, to all departments of Alpine F1, because we really want to rise to higher positions. Therefore, we will continue to resist – at the same time I would like to thank all fans for their support … “
After the first four stages of the season, Alpine F1 has no points at all and its best results to date remain 13th place, occupied by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in Saudi Arabia and Australia.
