Jaguar factory driver Mitch Evans won qualifying in Misano and will start from pole on Saturday’s race at the Italian circuit, where Formula E will be held for the first time.
This is the New Zealander’s seventh pole position in the electric series, and today he beat Jean-Eric Vergne in final qualifying by 0.16 seconds in a close battle. French racer DS Penske was fastest in all previous sessions, but Mitch still finished on pole position.
The third result was shown by Pascal Wehrlein, a driver from the Porsche factory team, and Jake Hughes’ electric McLaren was due to start alongside him from the second row, but the Briton’s result was cancelled.
“We were told that Jake’s car did not meet the technical regulations because the fire extinguisher on his McLaren was not activated during qualifying. As a result, he has been disqualified and will start the race from the last position,” the team said.
Nico Muller, ABT Cupra driver, has moved up to 4th position, Oliver Rowland (Nissan) will start fifth and Sam Bird, Hughes’ McLaren teammate, will start sixth.
